A step-by-step guide to applying for an importer or exporter code with Dubai Customs.

What is an importer/exporter customs code?

An importer/exporter customs code, also known as a Mirsal code or customs business code, is an official code issued by Dubai Customs to businesses operating in the UAE. This code is necessary for companies that want to import or export goods into or out of the UAE.
The customs code links shipments to the company’s UAE trade license, ensuring proper customs clearance and legal compliance for both imports and exports.

Key Functions of a Customs Code:

  • Customs Clearance: It is required for processing and clearing goods through Dubai Customs.
  • Tracking Shipments: The code allows customs to track shipments linked to the registered business.
  • Legal Requirement: Having this code is mandatory for businesses involved in cross-border trade.
Without a customs code, businesses are unable to legally move goods through Dubai's ports and free zones, which makes it a critical component of trade operations in the UAE.
